I love putting together gift baskets. It says you put a lot of thought into the gift but the items can add up and become costly.
That’s why today I wanted to give you some tips on how you can make Dollar Store gift baskets look classy and not look like they came from the Dollar Store. Before anything else, I want to thank my friend Ashley and Janine for putting this hop together and allowing me to join in. I made a little video of the process you can find HERE.
1. DECIDE ON A THEME.
I love walking around the Dollar Store and looking at various potential themes.
There are so many possibilities but for the purpose of this post, I chose a baking gift and a spa gift.
I’ve created other themes in past and have added them at the bottom of this post.
2. LOOK FOR ITEMS WITH THE SAME COLOR SCHEME
Decide on a color scheme and try to stick with items that coordinate with each other. Remember you don’t have to keep the packaging the item came in. Which leads nicely to the next tip…
3.REMOVE PACKAGING AND REPLACE IF NECESSARY
A big giveaway that an item was bought at the Dollar Store is obviously the tag and packaging. So make sure you remove all tags.
I like to remove the packaging unless the item requires instructions. For this particular spa gift, I took the cotton pads and place them inside
this pretty glass container. Notice I left the nail polish in the box as it requires instructions.
3. LOOK FOR BRAND ITEMS
Often times you will find brand name items at the Dollar Store. I have found items from the Joanna Gaines Hearth & Home, notebooks from Rifle Paper Co. and most recently, Christmas socks from Old Navy (which I included in my spa gift).
Walk the isles and you will be surprised how many brand items you can find.
4. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX (pun intended)
The focal point of a beautiful gift basket is not a basket. I tend to stay away from the brown baskets and look for beautiful containers that can be reused
5. ADORN BASKET WITH FLOWERS OR GREENERY
Instead of using a typical bow, cellophane or curly ribbon , adorn your gift with flowers and greenery. I truly believe this makes all the difference in presentation and takes a normal gift basket into something that looks beautiful and classy.
Here are some other gift baskets, I’ve put together in the past. (Click on the photo to go the post)
