Hello friends, I hope you’re doing well. I’m so excited to have finally finished this project which I’ve been wanting to do for years.
I wanted to turn these regular glass doors and give them a little more character and today I’m going to show you how to make faux french window panes.
It makes such a HUGE difference in the kitchen and I just love how it turned out…
You will need:
Wood Glue we used Krazy Glue Fast Dry Wood Glue
Paint color of choice. I used Canadian Tire’s ‘Pure Black’ Premier Ready To Roll paint.
Decide how many panes you’d like your window to have and purchase trim accordingly.
Measure and mark middle of your window with a white pencil.
Measure inside of the window vertically and cut trim accordingly.
Use painter’s tape to hold vertical trim in place and measure from middle trim to sides of the window. Cut according to measurements as many strips as you will require.
NOTE: Hubby decided to make the pieces slightly bigger so the frame would ‘wedge’ into the window and we would not need any additional adhesive.
Attach side trim to middle trim by using Krazy Glue Fast Drying Wood Glue . It worked perfectly !
Use a level to make sure everything is nice and straight.
The glue cures in 6 minutes but we used painter’s tape to hold the pieces in place and let it sit while we painted the rest of the window frame.
Once the glue is fully cured, I removed the tape and painted the trim with black paint.
Here is a look at the cool new Premier paint Ready To Roll paining system by Canadian Tire. It comes in a bag and there’s no mess!
I love it.
For the door panels, I painted them first and them used Krazy Glue to attach.
Hubby Painted the window casing and frame using my favourite black paint by Canadian Tire called Pure Black .
We used spray paint for the latches and the metal areas by covering the surrounding areas with plastic first.
We followed the same process for the doors…
I just loved how it turned out and I wish I had done this a lot sooner !
Now I just wish I had done a better job cleaning the windows…:(
Here is a quick before photo I shared on Instagram…
We also changed the handles and I think they look great!
What do you think? Super easy right?
I hope you enjoyed this quick and easy tutorial. Thank you so much for stopping by.
It looks fantastic Lucy! Great job!
Just fabulous!!! Black, white, and gray are my jam right now! You have created a beautiful balance of textures and colors! I love the big plants too! Bravo!

Wow, what a transformation! I I wasn’t sure about this at first, but I LOVE IT!, I probably could never talk my husband into painting that beautiful black color though. Your husband is a good guy – – goes along with your ideas. By the way, after MANY years cleaning windows, and even my husband trying special window cleaners, I’m finding that a simple recipe, (I don’t know where I ran across this) works best. I make it all the time now, and my windows come out WITHOUT STREAKS! We were always cleaning, and thought they looked good. Then, when the sun came across the other side of the house, they looked terrible!!! Here it is if you want to try…
1 cup rubbing alcohol, 1 cup distilled water, 2 Tablespoons white vinegar… optional: 8-10 drops essential oil
Mix in a GLASS spray bottle. wipe with one microfiber cloth vertically, then another horizontally to dry.
PS) Never use fabric softener in your cleaning cloths Works great!.
Lucy….it looks fantastic! We built our new home two years ago and I had them paint my 9ft patio doors black as well. We have open concept and the doors are in the family room, so I think it looks nice. . I also had them paint my pantry door and the office doors black and with the entire area being open concept, it really sets off the main floor. All other doors in the room (and the rest of the house) are white, but with black hardware and black door knobs. I have four sliding barn doors in my house as well (white with black hardware and custom made black handles) We have transom windows over all the doorways (that includes bedrooms and bathrooms) and they are trimmed in black and the stairs (for the basement and to the room above the garage..which also are in this same space), I had them paint the risers black as well. I think the black just sets off everything and looks elegant. At least, I am pleased with the effect…lol..! I am so happy you are loving your black painted door and window! (And paint in bags..who knew?! (I didn’t know Canadian Tire had that)

Love the gift wrapping ideas! I like things with no color!
Oh my goodness, it looks fantastic! I love how dramatic the black looks. We have three sets of French doors in our family room that look almost identical to your “before” photo. I’m going to have to give this some serious though! Thanks so much for sharing!
Wow- amazing transformation!

Wow! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful work with us. The fact that you did it is very impressive, as for people who do not do it professionally. It always seemed to me that such things are done by people who have at least received education in this direction. But you have refuted this theory of mine. Now I understand that any of us can do it. One has only to want and understand the intricacies of the work. I am just now thinking about how to put my house in order and change it a little. I think this option is just perfect for my idea. You gave me another great idea.
A perfect result of a qualified professional. If you dream of such a high-quality repair, take the time to study windows usa reviews before hiring a specialist. The quality of the work as a result will really pleasantly surprise you
Chic Windows look very stylish, which has a positive effect on the interior of the house. I really like this version of windows https://blueskywindows.com.au/double-glazed-windows/ , and not only visually, but also for its functionality
I like the way it looks. Of course, windows should differ not only in a beautiful addition to the interior, but also in their functionality. Low-quality options quickly become unusable after the first year of use, causing a lot of problems. But if you are already concerned about the problem of fogging windows, you can find help here https://www.unitedwindowspro.com/chicago/foggy-window-repair/
Does the glue not show from the outside?

Indeed it looks fantastic! What is the name of these doors and where did you get them? Was it from newmarket window replacement company https://thwindowsdoors.com/newmarket-window-replacement/ too or somewhere else? I was recommended that provider in Newmarket, just because they have a top quality level and gave a discount. So, please write back!
Many make a choice in favor of the front door with a window. I also really like this option, because thanks to this we get a lot of daylight. I have already found many similar options from etodoors
Thanks this nice article. I think french doors look great withmodern farmhouse curtains too.
Because this is so helpful to me, I believe that this blog is among the best of those that are available to me. I am grateful that you have made this helpful information freely available. nytimes crossword
I also have the question of: doesn’t the glue show since the wood is only on one side of the glass? Or do you just make sure the wood is covered all over uniformly so when it is adhered it will not have any variations at all..I don’t know how else to describe what I’m trying to ask I guess 🤷♀️

A double glazed window combines two panels of glass within the same window frame. Unlike single glazed windows, the two glass panels are great insulators. Working as energy saving windows, they help insulate your home all year round.

Are the rest of your windows black in your house or is it only your kitchen window? That’s black? We’re about to do the same thing with the black French doors and white cabinets in Block Island and can’t decide what to do with the kitchen window leaning towards black, but not sure if it’ll look funny with the rest of the white windows in the dining room.
Hi do you glue the trim to the inside or the outside of the window?
What size is your kitchen sink window please?
