Hello friends and Happy Friday! I’m excited to bring you another video with my friends from Wayfair. This time, I’m sharing a few simple tips on how to bring cohesiveness when decorating your home by using color.
Creating an entire color palette for your home takes some time and planning, but you should also be prepared for some trial and error.
Today I’m sharing a few simple tips to get you started – On side note: How is that for an intense freeze frame shot of my face?…ha.
TIP 1. Pick one room to start and allow that room to dictate the feel for the rest of your home. A good place to start is the front entrance (first impression) or the largest room in your home (likely to spend the most time).
TIP 2. Pick three-to-five colors you absolutely love. If you love color, this may simultaneously excite and frustrate you as the possibilities are endless. If you prefer a little less color, stick to neutrals and muted tones.
Just remember – these are the colors you will have to live with, so make sure you LOVE them, which may mean forgoing trendy colors.
TIP 3: Use these colors throughout your house. This might seem obvious, but there is a way to do this so your home does not end up looking too “matchy matchy” and uninteresting. You can pick different tones of the color or just carry one of the colors or different intensities of the color, etc.
Take a look at this chart and you will see colors found in some of the rooms in our home. Even though they are all greens and blues, they all have different attributes. You can use more of one in one room or omit one of the colors completely, etc.
TIP 4: Pick one item that will remain the same throughout your entire home. These are items such as baseboards, floors, cabinetry etc.
Remember that having a home that is beautiful and livable takes time and planning, but most importantly, a home is the place where your heart is.
Thank you so much for visiting today. If you have any questions or need any color advice, feel free to leave a comment below and I’ll make sure to respond.
Have a beautiful long weekend…xo

Hi Lucy! I love the colour story of your home; It is so beautiful! I love neutrals, but have recently been wanting to add some navy blues into my decor. I would love to know some of your sources (for example, your blue and white gingham pillow covers). If you have a moment, that would be great! Thank you.

That video really helped tie the color theory together! I’m rethinking my living room palette now. Thanks for the great tips.
I really enjoyed this post because it explains how color planning can make a home feel more connected and balanced. Starting with one room and building a palette around it is a smart idea, especially for people who feel confused with too many design choices. I also liked the suggestion of using 3–5 favorite colors instead of following trends. That makes a home feel more personal and long-lasting. In my own experience, adding flexible décor pieces like a colorful folding mattress for room decor can also help bring color into different spaces without making the room feel heavy. It works well in living rooms or guest areas where you want both comfort and style. The idea of using different tones of the same color is also helpful because it avoids a “matchy” look. Overall, this post gives very practical and simple design guidance.
