Watercolor Peonies in Ginger Jar Tutorial and Free Printable

Peonies are one of the most beautiful spring flowers and today, I’m showing you how easy it is to paint watercolor peonies in a ginger jar.

Last year when we built our deck, we had to transplant my peonies to a different location and I’ve been patiently waiting for spring to see if they survived the move. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they did 🙁 . I tried to follow all the ‘advice’ on how to transplant them and I still haven’t given up on them but I’m kinda bummed out that I won’t have my own peonies this year…:(


Fortunately, peonies are starting to slowly appear at the grocery store, the bad part is that they’re about $5 per stem. I lucked out last week and got some beautiful ones for my mother’s day bouquet. I love how they look with the tulips. and the blue ginger jar.

I wanted to share this video with you which I hope you will enjoy. Peonies are pretty easy to paint if you just let go of expectations and keep your strokes very lose and organic. I’m not sure if that makes sense.

  6. I had to relocate my peonies 15 years ago. It actually took years for it to start blooming again. First year only som leafs came up from the soil. Now they are thriving, I don’t remember how mant flowers I get but there are a bunch (10 maybe more). I love this plant, it came with the house when we bought it and I had to relocate it two times! The second time I did lose half of the root (I had a little misshappening and I broke it in two). Im so glad it survived! But here I live we still got snow! In midle of may! Its just crazy, not normal at all. So I do have to what some time before I can se any flowers in my garden (some poor flowers did come up because we had some days without snow and normally it should be spring and now they are covered in snow). I really hope your peonies are coming, be patient it still may be there it may just need some time to get it together 🙂
