THE INSPIRATION GALLERY Link Party 25

Welcome once again to
The Inspiration Gallery!
Thank you for joining us.

Well, we have had another blast of winter here in Toronto, but you couldn't tell from the photos as they are all very Springy.  This week I shared a delicious and healthy orange mandarin smoothie...yum.  I also painted yet another abstract painting, but this time I used a different tool other than my brush.  And lastly, I wanted to bring a little Spring into our home and put together this little arrangement which really brightens up my heart!

It's getting close to that time of year when we want to clean our nests and Taryn shared this natural kitchen cleaner.  Perfect.  She also shared these delicious gluten free chocolate chip cookies; they look so delcious.  And last but not least, after linking up make sure you head over to Taryn's blog and enter for your chance to win your very own Silouette portrait Giveaway! Amazing, right?

Jaime took a little time off the blog to enjoy time with her hubby, but will be back next week!

And now for the best part - what have you been up to?

Spring arrangement....

The snow is falling once again, quickly covering the streets and rooftops in our city.  Tomorrow, the massive white blanket will spread across the fields crushing any hopes of an early Spring.

But while the snow falls outside, and winter overstays its welcome, I will smell my beautiful Hyacinths and wait patiently for Spring to arrive.  It is after all a February day in Canada.

Have a beautiful day!

much love,

One of the more commonly asked questions I receive is how my photos appear to be bright even during these gray winter days.  Truth is, I prefer darker days as I find the exposure easier to control, but here is a link to an earlier post about lighting that I hope will be helpful.  Note: the photos above were taken during a sunny afternoon, and are a little overexposed for my liking :(

Palette Knife Acrylic Painting - Blue Bird

As one matures, certain things - that were once blurry - become abundantly clear.  As the the hands of the clock remove the veil from your eyes it exposes a new world full of wonder, love and potential.

A world that had always been there, but its splendor blinded you.

I see that splendor in my husband's eyes, which reflect
the many colours of the ocean depending on the day.

I see that splendor in our children's innocent smiles as
they light up the room when hearing the words 'ice cream'.

And as I look at my dirty finger nails displaying the colours of
the rainbow after hours of painting, I once again see the splendor.

This weekend, I painted on a raw piece of pine
board using a technique I hadn't used in 20+ years.

I used a palette knife - typically reserved for use
with oil paints -and my DecoArt acrylic paints.

As you can see from this type of impressionist painting, the subject doesn't need to be perfect and that in itself is very freeing.  The picture is not yet completed, but I wanted to share the work in progress along with the ombre bottle display collection I have been working on.

I enjoy the textures the knife creates and I can't wait to continue using this technique and hopefully improve my results.

What I do know is that painting is such a part of my soul.  It is a deep passion that only grows with time and I have a new appreciation for the Godly gifts.

Thank you so much for visiting today.  It means so much to me to see you here.
Have a lovely day!

much love,

Healthy Mandarin Orange Cream Smoothie

It's Sunday night and I'm sitting here watching the Oscars, dressed in my PJ's and feeling extremely under dressed and somewhat inadequate in the looks department.  I tell myself these beautiful women get paid to look the way they do.  Personal trainers, beauty spas, personal chefs, etc, etc, etc.  Funny how even at my age these illusions and standards of beauty seem to affect me.

Truth is, I have always struggled with body image issues.  As I have matured, I have gotten better, but there is this little voice in my head that shows up from time to time and tells me that my arms should be more toned, my legs leaner and the list goes on and on.

As a mother of three, I know how important it is to set a good example in self acceptance, especially for our 9-year old daughter. But I also want to model a healthy lifestyle without taking things to extremes.  So they see me work out and eat healthier choices, but at the same time have a slice a pizza or two during family nights.  I am a work in progress and as I learn to accept myself, I am reminded of this verse.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Psalm 139:14

Mandarin Orange Cream Smoothie

I hope you have a beautiful start to this new week!
