Before anything else, I just wanted to say thank you for your words of encouragement on my previous post. I am always amazed by your tender hearts and am truly humbled and grateful that you take time to get to know me better.
Everyone was well enough to go to school today so I did all the fun mom stuff - laundry, sweeping, wiping....you know how it goes. I also had to do a little grocery shopping and was excited to see the streets lined with holiday decorations.
It seems a little early to start decorating now - since we usually start decking the halls the last weekend of November or first week of December - but after seeing all the beautiful Christmas ornaments out there, I had to bring a little bit of Christmas into our home with this little winter wonderland ornament....
In retrospect, I would have removed the stand altogether and placed the tree on a little piece of white plasticine and then pour in the glitter (or in this case sugar, 'cause the glitter I had was not fine enough...shhh)
If you follow me on FB, you may know that I have been thinking of doing a series on Christmas ornaments, but Pinterest really takes the fun out of being creative and I say that as a compliment to all of you. It's hard to be original nowadays...:( I'll do my best and see how it goes, I hope you will join me....
I'm not looking forward to winter and snow just yet, but today I pretended I was a fairy and ventured inside the bulb...and it was magical!

ReplyDeleteOh I laughed at your pinterest taking the fun out of being original thing. I think we are VERY alike in that way. I always think I have this innovative idea and I then realize after perusing pinterest...yeah....it's been done. And I go on ahead and pin it. :) But like you...I love that crafty, artistic minds think alike. And you my dear, are one of kind. Truly. And of course...the ornament is BEYOND darling.

So glad the family is back on their feet. No fun being sick when there's so much to do! Love this idea, I just never know how people get the things into the glass ornament without breaking the glass. Ah, I think it may need patience...I'll have to work on that.

Oh! This is magical! I understood immediately the desire to me small enough to wander around inside the little globe.
ReplyDeleteEvery year Hubby treats himself to one or ten of those sods that come in a spherical bottle with a picture of Santa on the label. You know the ones... I've saved every single one. For about five years, promising I'll make something with them for Christmas and I never do. But I could make these! You've inspired me! Thank you!
They are ADORABLE! I'd have to use salt in the Houston area. Otherwise, my tree would be covered in either ants or those HUGE roaches! Eventually, the salt would cake with our humidity, but so would the sugar and I'm not sure that's not a good thing!

I was wondering how you put the tree into the globe, and if I wanted to put in something else, such as a reindeer or some other plastic animal toy, do you think it would fit? Or did the tree fit 'cause you can squish it through? The opening doesn't seem very accommodating... haha. Please let me know your thoughts, I want to make these soonish! Thanks :)
